It seems Christmas is already here at Horizons and everybody is getting into the mood….well, nearly everybody. I came back into my office on Wednesday to find a ‘Bah, humbug’ Christmas word search on my desk – I’ve found ‘scrooge’ 3 times already. A number of Christmas trips have been planned over the next 3 weeks and several groups have already been down to the Christmas Markets as you will have seen in this blog. Decorations in the reception will be going up Monday – yes, despite my best efforts it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

The key workers are currently arranging reviews and planning targets along with input from our young adults, families and support workers. We are looking at meaningful targets based around independent living skills and are hopeful the skills learned can be put to good use at home. Feedback from home would be useful, so please let us know how everyone is getting on.

All our young people having been enjoying their usual activities, from getting out and about in the community for shopping..

..Christmas fun..

..and exploring..

They wrapped up against the weather and visited plenty of parks..

..and they’ve had a LOT of fun trampolining..

They’ve also enjoyed getting creative (and messy, of course!) with all sorts of Christmas crafts..

..and baking..

You’ll be pleased to hear they’ve helped tidy up too!

Emma’s group have also been working hard on the trolley run over at First Choice Homes..

Although we’re not into 2019 yet, it was nice to meet some parents the other week from the Learning Centre who are thinking about their children coming to Horizons next September. It may be 10 months off but the time will soon pass. I am already starting to plan for it.

I’d like to finish by sharing a message from Daniel Wood, head of Future Finders Employability College and the Key Stage 5 Pathways at Medtia..

We would like to set up a parent employer network where parents and representatives from business meet termly to discuss how we can extend our range of work experience placements and employer encounters. This could be co-ordinating visits to your place of work or arranging work experience placements for students within our Group. We are looking for parents to join this forum who are employed in ANY sector. If you are interested, please contact our work placement co-ordinator Maria for further information. Her email is mstatham@newbridgegroup.org or you can call her on 0161 883 2403.

I hope you have a great week,

Head of Centre
