Firstly, I would like to thank you for your kind words about the films we shared with you last week. ‘Reece’s Story’ has now been viewed over 4000 times and it is really lovely to read through all of your supportive and encouraging comments on Facebook. Reece truly is a fantastic role model for our young people and his story will inspire many of them for years to come. I know that the films have been presented at many of our sites over the past week and the wonderful feedback from staff and young people has been overwhelming. A huge thank you once again to the Digit4ll students who produced the films for us – the ‘New Bridge Productions’ enterprise they run is proving to be yet another great success and their films are extremely professional.

At Horizons this week Jeff’s group have had fun playing pool and visiting Oldham Library and Extreme Air..

They have been out and about in Alexandra Park..

..and done a spot of office work including helping John out with his calls..

Gary’s group have visited the library and Gallery Oldham where they were impressed with the History of Photography exhibition..

..and took advantage of the opportunity to dress up in period clothes from the past..

Gary’s group had a great time celebrating Shrove Tuesday last week..

Shannon helped set up our International Women’s Day display..

The group had a very interesting session discussing which women inspired us – it turned out to be mainly our Mums, although one person did say Beyonce!

Hayley’s group have had a lot of fun making lots of crafty things for their Wizard of Oz display..

They have also been baking chocolate cripsy cakes and shortbread..

They have enjoyed some lovely Spring weather on their visits to Ability Wheelz..

..and they have even found a little bit of time to relax..

Our work also continues to gain interest further afield and this week I have been in contact with St Augustine’s School in Dublin who have heard about some of the innovative work that we do here at New Bridge. I am very much looking forward to going over to Dublin to tell them all about what we do! It is great that we can inspire not only our own young people but others across the UK. I will obviously also ensure that I gain a full cultural experience whilst in Ireland which may include tasting the local brew (Guinness) and learning the Riverdance!

I am writing this blog today from The Atrium Café where our young people continue to amaze me. Today Faisal from the Learning Centre, who has only been here for a few weeks, is in the kitchen standing in for one of our cooks who is poorly. He has been making sandwiches, preparing food and keeping the washing up under control – well done, Faisal! Here are a few pictures of him and others on placement this week..

Matthew and Nathan wrapped some cutlery ready for customers to use tomorrow and they shadowed Chris doing the trolley run so they could get an idea of the layout of the building and the different types of jobs that students do at the café..

Sufyaan stocked the drinks fridge, stocked up the condiments, cleaned tables and did the trolley run. Sufyaan knows that the warm cans should be put to the back when stocking the fridge and that the logos should be facing the front, he did a fantastic job of reorganising and stocking it for the day this morning..

The Digit4ll students have also had a busy week at Medtia Square as Mr Bright reports..

This week the Digit4ll Pathway students completed a number of tasks relating to their enterprise ‘Enspire’. We have had an order from X-Factor contestant Christian Burrows to print 100 CD cover inserts to promote his music. This involved editing graphics, printing and guillotining the prints. Here you can see Mitchell and Lewis hard at work..

All the Digit4ll students are undertaking the GCSE qualification ‘Creative iMedia’ and one of the units is web design. They have all learned how to build a multi-page site adding navigation bars, flash banners and inserting content such as images, text, videos and sounds. The project involves creating a gaming and music website and the students have worked really hard.

Elsewhere, they have been developing their skills in sound recording on location. You may have seen our recent video productions for Future Finders..

and ‘Reece’s Story’..

Producing these films involves a huge amount of practice beforehand and our students have been using several different types of microphones including stereo and shotgun microphones..

Finally, if you are considering what to get that special lady for Mother’s Day look no further – a canvas with an image of the family or children would make the perfect gift! We’ve already had a number of orders in which have been keeping our students busy so get yours in quickly to avoid disappointment..

Have a wonderful weekend,
