Well, a big hello from a very snowy Medtia Square! We have had a brilliant week here and we are now back into the swing of things and, as promised, we have lots to report back on…

As Director of Employment, I have many proud moments when I get to see our young people really thrive in an employment setting. This week there were two of those moments that really do make me proud to work here at New Bridge. On Tuesday our first ever student from Ebase at the Learning Centre started a work placement at The Atrium. Oliver has been preparing for the visit for a number of weeks and by using Signalong and PECS, he was all set for a morning at work. He did an absolutely brilliant job of preparing knives and forks for service by wrapping them in napkins and he was extremely polite and friendly to the Atrium staff. Well done, Oliver! Our other big success this week was Jordan from our Digit4ll pathway who is our first ever student to start a work placement with Tesco. Jordan made such a huge impression on the store manager that he has been asked to go in an hour early next week to have lunch with the boss before he starts his shift – absolutely brilliant! (please take note Mr Quinn, I’m looking forward to my lunch invite…….) The staff at Tesco were overwhelmed by Jordan’s friendly manner and work ethic and they are keen to train him on the tills amongst other things. Well done, Jordan!

Our Future Finders have had another fantastic week attending inductions with their new employers and also completing their City and Guilds qualifications. Now our focus is entirely on moving the young people into paid employment and we look forward to sharing our successes with you over the coming weeks. We would also like to officially welcome Oldham Plastics to our programme, where Adam and Aisha will be working in the warehouse and admin office this term. The staff at Oldham Plastics have been extremely receptive to our young people and they are already talking about offering paid work upon completion of a successful placement. Another example of our young people proving themselves to be worthy employees in an extremely competitive market.

Over at Horizons this week, Emma’s group have returned to Ability Wheelz along with Jeff’s group and they had a brilliant session at Alexandra Park..

I am thinking of joining them myself next week… it could help shift that Christmas weight gain!

Jeff’s group have also had another busy week which included their first visit to Elk Mill. They had a break from the wind and enjoyed a snack at McDonalds..

I’m tempted to go on this visit next week instead of Ability Wheelz after all!! The group also enjoyed their weekly dance session..

..and paid another visit to Extreme Air which they hope to visit soon for a trampolining session..

Over at the Learning Centre, Hayley’s group have also braved the cold and ventured down to Ability Wheelz..

They have enjoyed looking out at the snow and relaxing in the warmth..
