Hello and welcome to the first of our weekly blogs from New Bridge Horizons!

We have had a brilliant start to the Autumn so far at New Bridge Horizons. Jeanette’s group are settling in extremely well at their new base at the Learning Centre. The fantastic new space is a superb resource for the young people and we look forward to being able to offer hydrotherapy and rebound therapy sessions in the coming weeks. Last week this group ventured over to Weatherfield for a tour of Coronation Street. They had a brilliant time and even managed to get behind the bar and have a drink in the Rovers! (Soft drinks only!)

Back here at New Bridge Horizons, our young people continue to access a variety of activities within the community. This week we have had visits to Wheels for All, Oldham Baths, Stamford Park and Chadderton Park to name but a few! We are certainly making the most of the good weather that we have had.

A group of young people are currently preparing to move to their new base up at our recently established admin hub at Oldham Hospital, just a few weeks to wait now following occupational health checks. The hub, however, is already thriving at Horizons. This week we have completed our first job sent over by the hospital; over 1000 flyers have been carefully prepared, folded and labelled ready to hand out to patients. Our young people certainly have the right work ethic – they got through so many in the first day that we had to ask for more to be sent over! A huge well done to everyone involved.

On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons the young people are continuing to enjoy their dance sessions. After seeing some of their ‘freestyle’ moves this week, I definitely think we have a good chance on Britain’s Got Talent next year – I can honestly say I haven’t quite seen anything like it before!

Over at Hollinwood Academy, our Future Finders students are working extremely hard in preparing to start their placements after half-term. The young people have been working on tasks related to preparation for working life and have had visits to Oldham and Manchester to look at the types of jobs that are available within the region. During a visit to Manchester, students attended a job fair at the Bridgewater Hall and even took a little time out for lunch at the Manchester Food Festival – we were definitely looking at hospitality jobs rather than food tasting (honestly Mr Quinn!).

Next week our Future Finders will be going for an induction at Oldham Community Leisure before starting placements after half term. Placements currently on offer to our young people include pool assistant, gym assistant, admin assistant, catering assistant and cleaning assistant. The young people are extremely excited and can’t wait to get started!

All that is left to say is a huge thank you to all of the staff and young people for all their hard work. I look forward to updating you about what we are doing each week through this blog.

Have a great weekend!
