Firstly, I would like to wish all our young people and their families a very Happy New Year. I trust that you all enjoyed your Christmas break.
It is great to be back this week and to begin what promises to be an exciting year for us all at New Bridge Horizons and Future Finders. This spring we look forward to moving into our new building, Medtia Square, and to starting new community placements for our young people at Horizons.
Today I am very excited to be finalising risk assessments and plans for our Future Finders students to begin their internships at Oldham Leisure Centre on Monday. Our students will be based full time at the leisure centre from Monday until we move into Medtia Square. I have also been working with a number of organisations this week on promoting working interviews where we can develop a new way of interviewing young people with additional needs for jobs. These young people may not cope with a traditional interview but would be able to prove themselves in a job should they be given a working interview of 2-6 weeks. This idea has been received with enthusiasm by a number of Oldham employers and is something that we will be looking to trial with some of our job hunters over the coming months.
At Horizons, our young people have settled back in well this week and activities have resumed as normal and have been enjoyed by all..
As you will know, Sam, one of our key workers has now gone on her maternity leave and some of the young people now have a new key worker. Families were informed of their new key workers are before Christmas but as always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Our admin group are seeking further contracts this week. They offer a wide range of administrative support to local community groups and businesses including mail shots, shredding, laminating and much more. If you know of any local groups or businesses who may require some support, please email our admin team directly at email@example.com
For those young people based at Horizons who are interested in employment opportunities, we have now set up group work experience placements at Dr Kershaw’s and Oldham Athletic. I will keep you posted via this blog on how they are getting on over the coming weeks.
Finally, an update on our move; we are still tying up loose ends relating to the lease of the building and are now very close to taking the building over completely. All necessary servicing and maintenance has been carried out to the building over Christmas and we are still hopeful that we will be in Medtia Square by the end of the month. We will keep you posted on our progress via this blog and letters home.
I hope that you all have an enjoyable weekend. Wrap up warm and get the sledges out… the snow is coming!
