Well, after 45 mince pies, 3 Christmas dinners and countless celebrations and miniature heroes, it is safe to say that my Christmas jumper is feeling very snug today! We really have had a brilliant week at New Bridge Horizons and we are all well and truly in the Christmas spirit.
This week hasn’t just been about partying and celebrations though, our young people have pulled out all the stops and worked as a team to ensure that everyone has had a brilliant time. Wednesday was a great example of this as we cooked a fantastic Christmas dinner for 45! Our young people chose their menu, went shopping for the ingredients, created table decorations and most importantly cooked the dinner, which was fabulous! I selflessly took on the role of official head quality controller – a tough call but someone had to eat at least 7 pigs in blankets before we sat down for our meal! Our festive feast was followed by an awards presentation which again demonstrated just how much our young people have achieved this year. From ‘best helper’ to ‘best signer’, everyone was recognised for their contribution to the Horizons community over the past year. This afternoon we ended our week with home-made mince pies and a Christmas disco – possibly not the best combination but it’s only once a year! We also really looked the part, sporting our snazzy Christmas jumpers today for National Christmas Jumper Day.
Our Future Finders have had their own Christmas celebrations this week with a trip to Ashton to see ‘Christmas with the Coopers’ at the cinema followed by a lovely meal at Frankie and Benny’s. Our students are looking forward to returning in January and starting their internships at the new Oldham Leisure Centre.
It is fair to say that the new year will see some exciting changes for us all as we begin our transition process into Medtia Square. We are hoping to have an open evening at the new building in January and will of course keep you informed of when this will take place. You will be receiving a letter today or in the post in the next few days with information on our plans for the move. As always, if you have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. The most important thing is to remind you that young people at Horizons will return to our centre on Broadway Street in January, and our Future Finders students will return to Hollinwood Academy for the first week back. We will then keep you fully updated as to when we will move across to Medtia Square full time.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. We look forward to seeing you all again on 4th January.
