Christmas Day is just two weeks away but we still have lots to fit in at Horizons! Our admin group have once again been working extremely hard, this week creating resources for the Geography and Lifeskills departments at New Bridge School. They proudly delivered all their work over at the main school site and were praised for an excellent job well done! The admin group also visited North Manchester Hospital this week to drop off their DBS paperwork and collect their uniforms. Very exciting, and the group are really looking forward to continuing with their admin support services for hospital staff in the New Year..[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”8″ gal_title=”ROH admin support”]
Our young people have continued to access the community this week, braving the weather to visit a number of parks, cafes, Oldham Leisure Centre and, of course, Wheels for All..[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”9″ gal_title=”WFA 11TH DEC 2015″]
Jeff’s group have created Christmas decorations in their woodwork and DIY sessions this week which look fab! I believe that all these are being sent home to be enjoyed by their families – we should have commissioned a collection for Horizons, we’ll have to get our order in early next year!
Jeanette’s group have enjoyed a visit to the Manchester Christmas markets today (photos to follow soon). They travelled in on the tram this morning and have had a fantastic time soaking up the festive atmosphere throughout the day – well done everyone for resisting the lure of the mulled wine in such cold weather!!
You may have seen in Wednesday’s Oldham Chronicle the two page centre spread about New Bridge and our developments with Horizons and Future Finders around Medtia Square. We are really pleased with the piece and if you haven’t seen it yet, you can read it here.
Regarding the move to Medtia Square, we will be following a slow and steady transition process throughout January to ensure that all of our young people have enough time to settle in. New Bridge Horizons will start the New Year at our current centre, Horizons House on Broadway Street, and our Future Finders students will continue to be based at Hollinwood Academy for the first week back. We hope this will give all our young people the best possible start in their new ‘home’ and we will keep you posted on the exact details of the move.
I would like to give a special mention to Sabha this week as she has been working really hard on her physio programme to build strength and muscle in order to maintain her mobility – well done, Sabha![Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”10″ gal_title=”Sabha”]
Another ‘well done!’ goes to Future Finder Alice – not only for championing our project in the Oldham Chronicle but also for doing a brilliant job on her placement. Alice took over the mail room at the Oldham Coliseum this week and has become chief franker – we are very impressed!
Next week we have a very busy and festive week of activities lined up. Our Future Finders will be going on the tram to Ashton for lunch and a visit to the cinema on Tuesday for their Christmas treat! Over at Horizons our young people will be shopping for all the ingredients for our Christmas dinner before taking over the kitchen on Wednesday to cook our feast. We have invited our friends from the Learning Centre, Jeanette’s group, to join us for the day and we can’t wait! Friday is National Christmas Jumper Day (Christmas hats are very welcome too!) and also our annual Christmas disco, so we will certainly be getting into the spirit ready for our holidays.
More singing for me this weekend with my fantastic choirs who raised £1700 last week through their performance at The Trafford Centre! On Sunday we will be singing all day at Manchester City, so another busy weekend is in store…..reminding me that I think my Christmas shopping will have to be online this year!
