Well, firstly I hope that you all enjoyed your half term week, whether you were at Horizons as usual or on holiday. I had a wonderful time in Macau and am looking forward to sharing my pictures (most of them anyway) with Mrs Pilgrim’s English group who, if you remember, sent me a list of top tourist attractions for my holiday.
..where they were impressed with the café..
They then stopped off at Nandos for lunch on the way back..
They’ve had fun with their usual activities..
..and they’ve been working hard maintaining our site and keeping it clean and tidy..
They paid another visit to Extreme Air and enjoyed celebrating Will’s 21st birthday..
Emma’s group have enjoyed sensory activities and a music session this week, as well as their usual visits to OCL and Ability Wheelz..
Gary’s group have been to check out the changes in Parliament Square..
They visited Oldham Library and the Get Oldham Working Jobs Fair..
They also had a fantastic time at Hollingworth Lake..
Hayley has been over in Disneyland Paris this week with the Year 8 pupils but she will be reporting back to us next week on what her group have been up to at the Learning Centre.
This week has been filled with the sounds of Arabian Nights coming from the Lumenus studio at Medtia (Aladdin rehearsals) and lots of transition visits for those moving on to Bridging the Gap or Future Finders next year. Here are a few pictures of this morning’s visits to Bridging the Gap at the Royal Oldham Hospital..
..and Future Finders at Medtia Square..
The students had a great time and are looking forward to moving on to their new courses in September. Also a reminder that next year we are launching a new pre-internship pathway here at Medtia. We have now identified a number of young people from across the Group who we feel will benefit from this new pathway and we will be in touch with families in the next week or so.
Preparations are now well underway for our two Medtia residentials next month. The Future Finders students will be going over to Salou in Spain to visit Portaventura with myself and some of our job coaches and the young people from Horizons are looking forward to their week in Blackpool with John. Future Finders students have received an itinerary for the trip this week and we will be holding a parents meeting for the holiday on Wednesday 21st June at 4pm. If for any reason you cannot make it, please do get in touch. Blackpool is now all booked and John is currently looking at room allocations. A letter will be sent home shortly regarding the activities on offer during the trip.
I am thrilled to inform you that our new ‘Worker of the Week’ is Mitchell from our Digit4ll pathway who has been working over at The Atrium Café..
It is fair to say that initially Mitchell wasn’t overly excited about working ‘free of charge’ at The Atrium but over the past half term he has become an invaluable asset to the team and is extremely motivated. Mitchell always asks what jobs needs to be done and carries tasks out both independently and to a high standard..
Have a wonderful weekend, here’s hoping the sun returns!
