26 May

Well the sun is shining, just in time for the Bank Holiday! I would firstly like to thank Mrs Pilgrim’s English group this week who found out I was off to Macau on my holidays and presented me with a ‘top 10’ list of things to do whilst I’m there. I am looking forward to reporting back to you all when I return from my holiday.

Over at Horizons this week, Emma’s group have enjoyed the sunshine with visits to Ability Wheelz and walks in the park..

Hayley’s group have had a great week made even better by the nice weather. Lots of fun was had in the sun, they have been on an outing to Heaton Park where they had a walk to see the animals before having lunch in the park..

They have been busy celebrating birthdays and baking cakes – ther very own Victoria sponge cake (Anthony even mastered baking asleep!)..

Once again they have been enjoying Ability Wheelz at Alexandra Park..

..before cooling themselves down with a water sensory activity..

Jeff’s group have had another busy week out in the community with swimming..

..bowling at Hollywood Bowl..

..and Ability Wheelz. Kevin who manages the site said goodbye to Craig who is now leaving the New Bridge Group after many years..

We all wish Craig all the best and we are sure we will be bumping into him in the community soon..

They stopped at Sainsbury’s to pick up a few things after Ability Wheelz and as the sun was shining, they took some time to sit and enjoy watching the bowlers at the park and talked to their friends on the bikes – an excellent day and a great start to the Bank Holiday..

Gary’s group have also been celebrating a birthday, this week it was Reece’s turn to have a party..

I also have more news this week of employment. Stefan had an interview on Tuesday to become a sports coach in schools and I am thrilled to inform you that he got the job! Stefan is an avid cricketer and plays for the England Disability Cricket team. He has recently achieved his Level 2 coaching qualification and will start his new role in just a couple of weeks’ time. We are very proud of you Stefan, you have worked extremely hard over the past few years to get to this point and we wish you every success with your new job!

Now back to Medtia and my Worker of the Week award which goes to David, one of our Lumenus students who has recently started a placement at Greenfield Tesco..

David has made a huge impression with his fellow employees and this week was left on the till independently to serve customers. This is a huge responsibility and we are proud that David’s manager thought that he was ready for the challenge. Congratulations David!

Well that is it from me this week. I would like to wish those of you who are off next week a wonderful half term! Fingers crossed for more sunshine. Horizons will be closed for the Bank Holiday on Monday but re-opens as normal on Tuesday. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on their week.
