It has been another busy week here at Medtia and I am now taking for granted the fact that over 100 of our young people are taking part in work placements each week! It is wonderful to see so many of them up-skilling on their placements at The Atrium Café and out in the community. I was extremely proud this week of Matthew, another of our young people here at Medtia who is making a big impression at Tesco! It is fantastic to see the pride our young people feel when they are given their work uniform. Matthew did an incredible job in his first week as you can see in these photographs..
I am also delighted to launch our ‘Worker of the Week’ award. This week it goes to Thomas who has been working over at The Atrium for a number of months. Thomas has come on greatly in that time and is now operating the till independently when serving customers and this week acted as a mentor to another student out on the trolley run. He is polite and courteous at all times and is liked by the staff team and customers alike. Well done, Tom!
Next week I will be travelling to London along with John to share our successes in placing young people with additional needs in the heart of our communities. We are speaking at the National SSAT Special Needs Conference and hopefully some of the outstanding work that we do here in Oldham will inspire leaders from other schools to do the same.
At Horizons this week, Jeff’s group have been making the most of the sunshine at Ability Wheelz and at The Boathouse Cafe in Alexandra Park..
They have also enjoyed a full day out in Oldham, visiting Costa Coffee (I am convinced they could find a café anywhere, even lost in the middle of a desert!) and the new Odeon Cinema..
They had a chat with Nick and Pauline in the town market and visited the key shop and shoe repair shop where they looked at how shoes were fixed and polished..
The group also celebrated Jonathan’s birthday this week when they enjoyed some cakes and snacks..
..before having a dance..
..and visiting Extreme Air..
Shelly’s group have also had a busy week with visits to Uppermill and Manchester City Centre..
Emma’s group recently visited Stamford Park and they certainly chose the right day for it, just look at that glorious sunshine..
They also continue to enjoy their weekly dance class..
Both groups then joined forces for a lovely visit to Portland Basin on Friday..
Well, I hope that the weather picks up over the weekend as I am performing along with my choir at a wedding on Sunday. Enjoy your weekend!
