Well, Christmas has certainly arrived this week at New Bridge Horizons. The young people have done a fantastic job of decorating the building and our beautiful tree is up and is looking fab! They have also been working on creating their own Christmas decorations in art and craft sessions and these have been put on display throughout the building too.
This week we have welcomed Terry back to the admin group. It has been great to have Terry here with us and he has really enjoyed being back with his friends. The admin group have picked up a lot of Christmas trade this week and are currently working on a big labelling job for the Royal Oldham Hospital. They are victims of their own success and the work just keeps on coming! Well done guys!
Elsewhere across Horizons, our usual weekly sessions out in the community have continued – the weather can’t beat us! Young people have accessed Wheels for All, Chadderton Hall Park and Sainsburys Café…
Some of the young people have also visited Medtia Square this week to get an idea of where the building is and what is in the local area. It is safe to say that the young people and staff are getting extremely excited and can’t wait to make the move over to our new building. We will be writing to you in the next week or so around our plans for the move and we hope to be able to give you a timeline of exactly when things are happening with the move. We have also started to send social stories home to families to prepare the young people for the move. If you require any further information or help with this, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Over at Hollinwood Academy this week, our Future Finders continue to work on their placements. Alice has been interviewed and photographed by the Oldham Chronicle this week at her new placement, the Oldham Coliseum…
and Reece has been praised by head of school Sarah Lockwood for his work as a Teaching Assistant…
Both are doing a brilliant job and are becoming valued members of staff in their own right.
I think my highlight of the week was being interviewed by the Oldham Chronicle. They are producing an education supplement all about New Bridge to celebrate our 10 year anniversary which is being published on Wednesday 9th December if you would like to get a copy. I was thrilled to be able to tell them about all of our exciting developments with the Manchester College and our developing pathways work based at Medtia Square. It was really interesting to talk about all the progress that has been made over the past ten years since I started here at New Bridge as a drama teacher. After many exciting new initiatives over the years such as setting up Bridging the Gap, creating New Bridge Horizons, opening the new Hollinwood Academy… it is clear that the opportunities for young people in Oldham continue to grow and, as ever, it as a really exciting time to be a part of the New Bridge Group, whether as a member of staff, a young person or a parent!
Next week I shall be updating you on work placements for the young people at Horizons and our big plans for a Christmas feast cooked by the staff and young people!
This weekend I shall be once again conducting my choir… this time at The Trafford Centre. If you find yourself there on Saturday, come along and see us performing Christmas songs in The Orient and fundraising for the wonderful Christie Hospital. However you spend your weekend… have a great one!
