03 Mar

Well, it may only be March but we are already extremely busy planning for the next academic year. Today we hosted our assessment day at Medtia Square for students who are interested in joining our Future Finders course in September. The course is growing increasingly popular and we welcomed 15 students this morning for a tour of some of our placements across Oldham before returning to Medtia to take part in some assessment tasks..

Our Digit4ll students have been working hard this week to complete two promotional films that look at the work we do at Future Finders. Here you can see ‘New Bridge Productions’ in action..

I was then thrilled to share the final results this morning with the prospective students…

I really am extremely proud of how far we have come over the past 2 years with Future Finders. The second film produced this week tells the story of Reece..

Reece’s success story is the first of many and I look forward to supporting many more students into paid employment in the future. A huge thank you to the Digit4ll students and Mr Handrick for doing such an incredible job of these films, their New Bridge Productions enterprise is yet another area at Medtia that is going from strength to strength.

At Horizons this week, Jeff’s group have been out and about despite the weather..

..although they were also glad to relax in the warmth..

Emma’s group have had lots of fun making pancakes..

..and making the most of being inside because of the weather by building dens..

Gary’s group have had another great week serving snacks at The Link Centre..

They even designed their own ‘Café Open’ sign..

The young people at Horizons also continue to enjoy their weekly yoga session…

Our current Future Finders students have had a busy week as our senior job coach, Gemma, explains..

This week we have had a busy week working at various placements. We have also been filming at both the library and the Atrium for the Future Finders promotional video with Digit4ll and Mr Bright..

The students have completed two projects in their classroom sessions this week, oral hygiene and World Book Day. In the oral hygiene sessions we learnt how to correctly clean teeth while covering both Maths and English functional skills. On Tuesday we had a ‘snow day’ so we went to the library in preparation for World Book Day and read lots of books. On World Book Day itself, the students read more books, wrote reviews on them and even wrote their own stories which have been used in a display in the classroom.

On Thursday the students had another visit from the Brook Clinic to talk about alcohol abuse. They had lots of fun trying on the beer goggles while learning about the negatives of drinking alcohol..

On Friday we welcomed potential new students to Medtia and told them all about Future Finders..

Matthew has also been thinking ahead and went on his taster visit to Hopwood Hall College where he has been offered a place in September. Mrs Nelson took some great pictures of him accessing the grounds and using a camera to film different angles of the buildings before editing them on the computer..

Our Lumenus students have also had their noses to the grindstone – not only are they hard at work on the Summer production of Aladdin and Jasmine..

..they are also preparing their own devised piece for a performance of ‘Reasons to be Cheerful’ at Oldham Coliseum on Monday! It is looking brilliant and tickets are still available from the Coliseum if you would like to see them in action for yourselves..

The students have assumed a superhero alter ego and they have worked together to create a rap, – check out their rhymes and their moves!

In other news, we have now confirmed a number of residential visits including a holiday to Costa Dorado in June for our 19-25 year olds and letters are going home with details!

Finally, I would like to congratulate the staff at The Atrium café who had their first ever inspection by Environmental Health this week. I am thrilled to inform you that they received a 5 star rating! Well done to Becci, Sammy and Toni who continue to do an outstanding job for us.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Daniel
