This week at New Bridge Horizons our young people have taken part in a competition that was set up by the Volunteer Co-ordinator at the Royal Oldham Hospital. We were asked if we could design a Christmas card to be professionally printed by the Pennine NHS Trust and sent out to all volunteers and executives across their 4 hospitals in Greater Manchester. The young people have been hard at work on their individual designs over the past week during their lunch time activities and we had over 30 entries! This afternoon Jo and Lynn from the Pennine Trust came in to judge the competition and we’d like to say a HUGE congratulations to our winner Sam, and our runners up Jamie-Leigh and Andrew. The three of them were presented with chocolates and a certificate, and they will all feature in the NHS newsletter next month too!

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the young people in our Enterprise Group here run their own printing business, New Bridge Printers. We are now taking orders for canvases, mugs, t-shirts and badges, all personalised with your own image, design and/or text, which would all make fab Christmas presents! For further details or if you would like to place an order, please visit their page here or email them directly at nbprinters@newbridgegroup.org

In other news this week, some of our young people have made their first visit to the brand new swimming baths in Oldham. They were really impressed by the new facilities and as always had a fantastic time in their swimming session.

Our Future Finders travelled over to Manchester Royal Infirmary on Wednesday to attend the open day for the Manchester College Supported Internships. They got to try out some different activities and also had the opportunity to speak to other young people from across Greater Manchester who are on the supported internship courses this year. Now that Oldham’s new leisure centre has opened our Future Finders will be starting their placements in the next week or so.

This week staff from New Bridge Horizons have been up to Medtia Square to start planning the space for our move up to the town centre. We are still finalising the legalities but we are hoping to be settled in within the next few weeks. We will be starting transitional visits to the building from Monday with our young people, and we have arranged a meeting for families at 5pm this Thursday 26th November at New Bridge School where you will be able to find out more about all the new developments and talk to staff about the exciting changes.

I’d like to wish you all an enjoyable weekend. With snow forecast, I’m off to the Spindles to buy a sledge and bob hat!
