We’ve had another fun packed week at Medtia and the young people at Horizons have once again been very busy with their activities despite what has seemed like constant rain. Emma’s group are doing some amazing work at the school polytunnel, it is only a matter of time before they are growing their own food! As you can see, they have been working hard..
The group have also enjoyed visits to Chadderton Hall Park, Ability Wheelz and Oldham Leisure Centre for their twice weekly swimming sessions.
We have officially welcomed Hayley this week as our new key worker based with the Learning Centre group. The young people have had great fun with their new key worker and have enjoyed a number of activities including creating their very own Father’s Day cards..
Jeff’s group have also been getting crafty this week with some fantastic art work and cards being created by the young people to take home. Gary’s group continue to be wonderfully helpful across the local community, this week they have volunteered at Dr Kershaw’s and the Link Centre. It was wonderful to hear that Jayce has enjoyed the work at Dr Kershaw’s shop so much that he is now going two days a week in his own time – the manager is extremely glad of the help. Well done, Jayce!
Football fever has also hit Medtia this week! Our young people have created their very own display to track the results for the Euros..
England flags have been put up and we have all enjoyed celebrating England’s success on Thursday!
Our Future Finders are now on their last few weeks on placements. I had the pleasure of visiting Max on Tuesday over in Huddersfield where he was working away in his new job as a housekeeper. He gave me a tour of the HUGE house that he works at and it was lovely to see how much he enjoys his work and how much the other staff enjoy working alongside him. As a testament to his hard work and popularity, he has also been offered a working interview for a second job at Oldham Community Leisure! Go Max, you’re on a roll – drinks are on you come pay day!
To finish today I am going to shamelessly plug our big sumer show again! I have spent most of my week rehearsing alongside Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and the other fairytale creatures who have been evicted from their homes and dumped outside Shrek’s swamp. Featuring sing-along songs including Livin’ La Vida Loca, I’m A Believer and I Need a Hero, this show is not to be missed!
Tickets are still available by contacting Wendy Warren at the main school site on 0161 883 2401 ext. 1007 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org – book soon as I hear we are nearly sold out!
Have a wonderful weekend… let’s hope for some sunshine and more goals from England on Monday!
