After a two week break, it is great to be back to share with you some of the events that have been going on here at Medtia Square over the past week. Gary’s group had a fantastic time when they spent the day at Heaton Park to visit the zoo, walk the fantastic grounds and enjoy a picnic in the sun (Gary’s t-shirt tan is coming on a treat)!

I also want to congratulate this group on finally finishing the comfort packs for Royal Oldham Hospital – such huge news that it made the local papers as you can see here.

Jeanette’s group at the Learning Centre also made the most of the sunshine..

Jeff and Emma have both been on holiday this week but their groups have continued to access their usual activities with our fantastic support staff and have very much enjoyed the sunshine at their sessions at Ability Wheelz (the new name for Wheels for All) and Chadderton Hall Park. They have also offered a warm welcome once again to current Year 14 students from the Learning Centre and Bridge College who will be joining us in a few weeks’ time!

Our Future Finders have just a few weeks left with us now and they are doing brilliantly as always. Max started his new job this week at the mansion house in Huddersfield where he has been preparing food for the staff lunches and is being trained in their very posh, product free cleaning system (apparently they use very fancy machines to keep the place spick and span!) Here are a few pictures of the worker in action..

I am very much looking forward to visiting Max and his new boss next week.

Adam and Sheroz had a busy shift at the Link Centre café where they hosted Carers Week. They were praised by the public for their hard work and friendly manner – well done to our catering stars! Reece is back to Hollinwood Academy where he is working with some of the young people who he will be supporting next year in his new full time paid position and Alice nipped in to see me this morning to tell me that she is off to work! We are hoping that she will get her rota today as part of the volunteering team.

I have had a very exciting week as I have been working over at school with some of the students on ‘Shrek’! Our set has arrived and looks fantastic and we have also had a new lighting system installed in the school theatre. The students are working brilliantly and this really is going to be a show to remember! Here is a little sneaky peek for you to sing along to..

Tickets are still available by contacting Wendy Warren at the main school site on 0161 883 2401 extension 1007 or by email to wwarren@newbridgegroup.org

I will finish today by offering my congratulations to another New Bridge student, Robert who is on our Bridging the Gap supported internship at the Royal Oldham Hospital. Robert had an interview yesterday and has been offered a paid job with G4S Cleaning Services starting in the summer!!! Another great success for a student who has worked extremely hard to prove his worth – well done, Robert!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Daniel Wood
