This week I have had a number of meetings, including one with the Directors and I also popped into the first Horizons’ parents meeting. The Directors’ meeting went very well and I was ‘grilled’ by parents around a couple of issues that I think are worth passing on to you.
Firstly, around the age limited. We are now a 19 plus service with no cap on the upper age. The only stipulation is that the young person starts with us before they are 25. The second discussion was around space in the building and how we will manage the new intake next year. I explained that at the moment we are nearly at capacity and that a number of different options are being looked at as to how we work through for next year. I will keep you updated on this.
Our next parents’ meeting will be on the first Wednesday back after the break, 9th January, at 1.30pm. Please try and come along, just let us know if you are able to make it.
As I’m sure you’re aware, Christmas has well and truly arrived at Horizons and our young people are loving it..
Emma’s group have enjoyed their Christmas celebration lunch..
..and have been working hard on the trolley run..
They discovered a Christmas tree festival..
..and have been kept entertained by the antics of an elf we’re reliably informed goes by the name of ‘Ginger Glitterpants’..
Josh has been learning to use the self (or elf?) service till..
With a week to go until we finish for the Christmas break (we close on Friday 21st December and re-open on Monday 7th January), I would like to thank all the staff at Horizons for everything they have done over the last year. The passion, commitment and the effort that they put in with our young people is second to none, both directly with the young people and also behind the scenes. The positive feedback that comes back from the young people and families about the staff is amazing at times.
I hope you have a great week,
Head of Centre
