This week has seen us introduce a new session for some of the young people based around relationships. This has come from some of the young people asking for it and from some parents. It’s early days but I think it will be a positive group with the young people learning from it.

Next week is our first parent support group meeting. The first meeting will be at 1.30pm on 11th December at Horizons. Meetings will then run monthly on a Wednesday starting 9th January. If you are interested in coming along you will be more then welcome, just contact Emma Scott on 0161 883 2403 for more information.

Our young people have had a great week at Horizons! David’s group have been improving their cooking skills and preparing for Christmas at the same time – just look at these mince pies..

They’ve also carefully decorated some lovely gingerbread treats and packaged them up all ready..

They’ve enjoyed some Christmas crafts including decorating cards..

They all had a great time visiting the Christmas Markets in Manchester and the wonderful Portland Basin. Somehow they still found the energy to take part in a very loud Christmas music session..

Yes, it’s definitely beginning to look a LOT like Christmas! Amongst all the festive fun, our usual activities have carried on with a focus on independent living skills. Craig can now rustle up a tasty ham sandwich..

Jonathan has been working on his independent living skills too and has now mastered his laces..

Hayley’s group have also had a lovely time getting very festive! The young people have been very busy visiting Housing Units and the Christmas Markets..

They’ve been out shopping for festive treats and decorations and getting busy in Santa’s workshop with lots of glitter, crafts and paint..

Everyone enjoyed a festive themed dance session and even John the elf got involved (hmmmm, we wonder where that name came from…….)

Alongside the festive fun we have been busy at swimming, getting out in the community, music sessions and our favourite Ability Wheelz – we even found a little bit of time to relax too!

Next week I will be meeting with the Directors of Horizons to give them an overview of the past year including such things as the numbers of young people attending, our intake for 2019, safeguarding, personal care, finance and training for staff. As I put the report together it’s looking positive.

I hope you have a great week,

John
