Well, I can begin this blog today with fantastic news – we now have our lease for Medtia Square and we are expecting to take over the building in a matter of days!! Our premises team will be spending the next few weeks making relevant adaptations to the building which include fitting two new adapted bathrooms. We will also be decorating and re-carpeting throughout in readiness for our young people.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience. This has been a long process for us all but we will soon be reaping the benefits of having a town centre campus with state of the art facilities for our young people – it has definitely been worth the wait! We will be in touch over the next couple of weeks to invite you to an open evening at Medtia Square so that you have the opportunity to come and see the building for yourselves.

At Horizons this week, one of our key workers, Gary, has been establishing our new partnership with Dr Kershaw’s. We are hoping that in the near future we will be able to offer supported placements across a range of departments including their shops, warehouse and inside the hospice itself. This is a really exciting area of development as we continue to prioritise preparation for work as a key focus area for the New Bridge Group. Through the recent launch of our Future Finders initiative www.futurefinders.org we are continually forming new relationships with employers across Oldham and beyond who share our vision in offering opportunities for our young people to gain meaningful employment and long term volunteering opportunities. This is something that I am sure I will be talking about time and again in this blog over the coming months.

Our groups at Horizons have had another busy week of activities across the community. The snow has held off and we have been able to access sessions at Wheels for All, Oldham Leisure Centre and at various parks across Oldham. A highlight for our life skills group this week was a game of football in the park..

..as you can see, the young people really enjoyed this session and look forward to continuing to access sports sessions in the community as the weather improves!

Our Future Finders have had another great week and are now really settling into working life at the new leisure centre. Colleagues from Manchester College visited us this week to see how the students were getting on and they were extremely impressed with how quickly our Future Finders have become valuable members of staff, taking on additional responsibilities each week and developing vital skills for the world of work..

I am looking forward to writing to you all again next week to update you on how work is progressing at Medtia Square. I will try and get some pictures for you too so that you can see how the building is shaping up.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Many thanks,

Daniel Wood
Future Finders Manager
